The Center for Academic Success is the place for students to study, find support through tutors and more.

  • The Learning Commons is a study space designed for individual and group work with access to technology and tutors.

Tutoring Services

  1. To be a “one-stop shop” for student academic support, dedicated to empowering students to attain their learning goals.
  2. To provide peer-driven tutoring services in which the tutee drives the session.
  3. To provide tutoring services in all the required general-education courses, in addition to providing tutees with studying strategies and resources.
  4. To remove the stigma of tutoring services by promoting an environment in which tutoring is perceived as a positive, rather than a negative.

  7. To schedule with a tutor, go to MyBethel  login, then go to "Students" then "Learning Commons." Alternately, you may access the scheduling software by selecting the help button through Canvas (blue question mark on the left side of screen).

Disability Services

The Center for Academic Success – Disability Services is located in the lower level of Miller-Moore Academic Center (room 033) on the Bethel University campus. We have a new accommodated testing/lab room to accommodate students with disabilities.

Bethel University and the law

Individuals, including students enrolled at Bethel University, are afforded certain rights under Federal legislation. Specifically, individuals with disabilities are provided rights under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and their appropriate amendments.

High school students

When at the college level, students with disabilities are entitled to support services. Students need to know enough about their disability to discuss it with the appropriate people. They must understand their rights and their strengths and weaknesses enough to know which accommodations to request. Students with disabilities need to be prepared for the independence and advocacy skills necessary for college life.

Testing Services

The Center for Academic Success proctors quizzes and exams for students who have learning disabilities. Students must have their completed accommodations form on file with the CAS-Disabilities Services office to receive testing services.

You must make an appointment to take a test in the CAS. Please call 574.807.7460 to schedule your appointment. Students without an appointment will not be accommodated. Appointments must be made 24 hours prior to requested proctoring date.

Academic Coaching Services

Academic Coaching is for students who desire assistance navigating the academic landscape of college. Many students struggle with the transition from high school to college, and need someone to connect with weekly who can assist the student to develop a plan and help him/her follow it.

Academic coaching is flexible, based on student needs.  It is available from peers or CAS staff.  It might mean one or more of the following:

  • Assisting in understanding the expectations within syllabi
  • Helping the student utilize a calendar system
  • Prioritizing between past due and upcoming assignments
  • Setting simple goals that will help the student accomplish the grade s/he desires
  • Showing the student how to take effective notes
  • Helping the student connect with a tutor or other resources
  • Identifying the student’s learning style so s/he can study smarter
  • Developing a reward system so the student can feed his/her motivation
  • Pointing the student toward on-line resources
  • Giving the student regular academic accountability

ACT Testing Details


About Test Dates
The dates the ACT is offered at Bethel are during months when it is not offered at the official sites. Bethel students who need to take the ACT may do so at official ACT sites on officially scheduled dates; see the link below for registration deadlines and test dates for 2018-2019.  To sign up for an test date at an official (non-Bethel) site, go to

All students must register for ACT Residual Test a minimum of one (1) week prior to their selected testing date.

You will need to bring and submit your payment by cash or check (payable to Bethel University).


Valid forms of identification include:

  • Current (valid) official photo ID
  • Letter of identification issued by your school (with photo in letter)
  • High school transcript with photo issued by your school
  • Notarized statement (with photo in statement)
  • Recent published individual photo

Required exam materials

  • Current photo ID
  • Social Security Number
  • Two No. 2 pencils with good erasers (mechanical pencils are not allowed)
  • Simple four-function calculator (non-printing/non-graphing) to be used on Math Test only.


An on-campus or "residual" testing program is available to ACT-participating colleges. Scores from Residual Testing are reported only to Bethel University offices for admission, course placement and advising purposes.

Eligibility for Students – Residual Testing is conducted at Bethel University for students who: 1) are enrolled, 2) have been admitted, or 3) are applying to Bethel University. Students who do not intend to attend Bethel University are not allowed to participate in ACT Residual Testing on our campus.

  • Scores from Residual Testing are valid only at Bethel University and cannot be transferred by transcript or other means to any other institution or agency.
  • Scores from Residual Testing are reported only to the college administering the test.
  • No Student Reports or High School Reports are generated.
  • No Additional Score Reports will be generated to report scores to any other institution.
  • Residual Testing is not a practice test and is not for use with younger students. Bethel University does not provide Residual Testing to individuals who do not intend to attend our college.
  • ACT Residual Testing is restricted to on-campus administrations. Test booklets may not be transported from campus to campus or to any off-campus locations.
  • A minimum of 60 days must elapse before another Residual Test may be taken. Scores achieved before the minimum elapsed time will be cancelled without refund.
  • ACT restricts the number of times a student may take the ACT to 12 times total. Residual Testing does count toward that maximum.
Accommodated learners
Extended-time testing is available to students with documented physical or learning disabilities. Please call 574.807.7460 in the Center for Academic Success to discuss the documentation needed to schedule a date for the extended-time exam.
