Bethel University receives 2021 Ball Venture Fund grant

Bethel University was recently awarded $25,000 through the 2021 Ball Venture Fund grant. Sponsored by the Ball Brothers Foundation of Muncie, Ind., the Ball Venture Fund provides seed funding for initiatives to stimulate creativity and innovation and foster competition and collaboration among Indiana’s 30 private, non-profit campuses.

Robby Prenkert ’92, D.Litt., has been named Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bethel University, beginning his new role July 1. Prenkert has served the university for 25 years, most recently as Chair, Literature & Language Studies; Associate Professor of English & Humanities; and First Year Experience (FYE) Coordinator. Prior to his faculty position, Prenkert was a resident director, men’s JV basketball coach, mentoring program coordinator and adjunct faculty.

On June 1, Barbara Bellefeuille, Ed. D., officially began her role as Interim President of Bethel University. Bellefeuille previously served as the Vice President for Academic Services at Bethel, and transitioned to her current position following the appointment of former president Gregg A. Chenoweth, Ph. D, as president of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Bradley Smith, Ph.D., has been named Vice President for Academic Services at Bethel University, beginning his new role June 1. Smith has served the university for 27 years, most recently as Dean of Humanities & Social Science and Associate Professor of Economics. During that time, he also served as Interim Vice President for Academic Services (VPAS).

In April 2021, Bethel University received a $255,000 Labs for Industry Futures and Transformation (LIFT) grant, allowing for greater educational opportunities related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The revised Phase II proposal of the LIFT grant was presented in December 2020. The $255,00 total project budget includes $230,000 for Phase II and $25,000 of remaining Phase I planning grant funds.

Several first-generation Indiana college students are getting a boost to their education funds this semester and re-connecting with influential educators who helped along the way after being named “Realizing the Dream” recipients by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). This year’s Bethel University recipient is Samarah Williams from La Porte, Ind., an education major.

The Bethel University American Sign Language and Interpreting Department presents a showing of Deafmade replica alarm clock systems from the early 20th century. The displays will be available for viewing March 22-26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the ASLID lobby, third floor of the Miller-Moore Academic Center on Bethel’s campus. Students, staff, faculty, and the local community are invited to come and enjoy the displays.

Bethel Athletic Director Tony Natali is pleased to announce the addition of Varsity Men's Volleyball to Pilot athletic programs at Bethel University. Recruitment of a team will begin in Fall 2021 for intercollegiate competition in Fall 2022.
