The Bethel College Music Department presents its Spring Choral Concert Fri., April 20 at 7:30 p.m., in the Everest-Rohrer Auditorium on Bethel’s campus. This concert includes performances by the Concert Choir and Voices of Triumph, and will also feature Bethel’s string quartet. Featured on the concert will be two world premieres, including a new arrangement of Bethel’s college hymn, “To God Be the Glory,” by Bethel music professor Robert Rhein, D.M.N. The Bethel string quartet will perform two works with the choir. Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs,” is a collection of short vignette love poems, set in Hebrew. Ola Gjeilo’s “Luminous Night of the Soul” features piano and string quartet and sets text by St. John of the Cross alongside poetry by contemporary poet Charles Anthony Silvestri. A special performance of “Somewhere” from “West Side Story” will honor the 100th birthday of composer Leonard Bernstein. This performance also debuts Bethel’s new dance troupe.
