Music Department Presents its Spring Instrumental Concerts

The Bethel College Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will perform Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m., in the Everest-Rohrer Auditorium on Bethel’s campus. The concert will open with the Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Vicky Warkentien D.M.M. Repertoire will include an excerpt from “Symphonie Fantastique, Op. 14a” by Hector Berlioz and Robert Schumann's “Piano Concerto, Op. 54,” featuring Senior Music Performance major Joel Lininger as the soloist. The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mike Kendall, Ph.D., will perform a number of exciting works, including Robert W. Smith's “A Nation's Strength” and “Rush,” by Samuel Hazo.

The Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will perform Friday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m., also in the Everest-Rohrer Auditorium. Directed by Reginald Klopfenstein, D.M., M.Mus., the program will feature Bethel students from a variety of academic majors performing an exciting and very diverse program. Jazz compositions include “When the Saints Go Marching In,” Earth, Wind & Fire's “Fantasy,” Glen Miller's “Pennsylvania 6-5000” and “Honeysuckle Rose.” Percussion Ensemble works include the ragtime classic “Dill Pickles,” “William Tell's “Canned Overture,” and a wonderful arrangement of Billy Joel's “Root Beer Rag.”
