Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

We want to let you know that there are no presumptive or confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) at Bethel University.

This afternoon members of Bethel’s Emergency Management Team attended a special briefing with the Unified Command Structure of St. Joseph County to discuss issues and receive information about coronavirus (COVID-19) in relation to colleges and universities. The UCS is comprised of representatives from the St. Joseph County Department of Health, Beacon Health System, St. Joseph Regional Health System and the South Bend Clinic.

The Saint Joseph County Department of Health also held a news conference this afternoon to announce that St. Joseph County has its first positive case of COVID-19. The health department stated that the patient is an adult male in his 50s who is quarantined at home. They stated that the patient does not need to be hospitalized.

Members of the BU Emergency Management Team are regularly reviewing information and implementing recommendations from the Indiana and St. Joseph County departments of health and the CDC. We are also in contact with other leaders in higher education – including colleagues from the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, the Council for Independent Colleges, and Independent Colleges of Indiana – to review current information and share best practices.

At this time, classes and activities are continuing as scheduled. Bethel has a web page (www.BethelUniversity.edu/Coronavirus) dedicated to updates about the coronavirus (COVID-19), including recommendations and instructions for students, faculty and staff. As the situation continues to unfold, we will update this web page with new information about Bethel’s ongoing response.

You can find additional information about the coronavirus at the following websites:

Sincerely,
The Bethel University Emergency Management Team
