Bethel University’s 31st annual campus-wide Service Day will take place Tues., Oct. 1, starting at 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by United Federal Credit Union (United), Bethel students, faculty, and staff, and United employees will serve together throughout Michiana. The day will start in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center on Bethel’s campus, where individuals will divide into groups and leave campus to volunteer at various local organizations from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A variety of locations will be served this year, including Center for the Homeless, the Foodbank of Northern Indiana, Transformation Ministries, the City of South Bend, Goodwill Industries and St. Paul Retirement Community, among others.

“Bethel serves the community throughout the year, but this day is special. It’s always extraordinary to see the campus break from the normal schedule to go out and work in the community. As in previous years, United employees will increase the impact by working alongside hundreds of Bethel students, faculty and staff. This day is a statement of our shared values and we’re grateful for a sponsor who also wants to care for this region.” Said Tyler Grant, Service Day coordinator and Director of Global Engagement and Career Services.

All classes before 6 p.m. are cancelled for the day so all students, faculty, and staff may participate. This year Bethel expects about 700 students, staff, and faculty along with a number of volunteers from United will join together for the day.

“It’s an honor for Team United to work with Bethel to make a difference in the community,” said Alysa Snell, United’s Market Vice President—Indiana. “At United, we believe in putting our values into action, and we are thankful to Bethel for giving us the opportunity to pitch in and showcase together what true service is all about.”
