Bethel University’s 32nd annual campus-wide Service Day will take place on Tues., Sept. 28, starting at 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by United Federal Credit Union (United), Bethel students, faculty, staff and United employees will serve together throughout Michiana. The day will start in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center on Bethel’s campus, where individuals will divide into groups and leave campus to volunteer at various local organizations.
“United is excited to once again partner with Bethel University for its annual Service Day,” said Carla Fazio-King, regional market development manager at United. “One of the credit union’s core principles is people helping people. Working with Bethel to build connections in the Michiana area and help those in our community is something we are proud to support and look forward to every year.”
There will be a variety of locations served this year, including Center for the Homeless, the Foodbank of Northern Indiana, Transformation Ministries, the City of South Bend, Goodwill Industries and the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County, among others.
"Service Day is one of the best days at Bethel,” said Jess Lyons, career development program manager at Bethel University. “The whole campus comes together, and after a year off, we're especially excited to find safe ways to serve our neighbors. We get to practice and enact Bethel's deep commitment to service, while meeting some amazing members of the community.”
All classes before 6 p.m., are cancelled for the day so that all students, faculty and staff may participate. This year Bethel expects participation from about 700 students, staff and faculty, with additional volunteers from United.
