Bethel College will offer its annual academic camps, which provide campers from ages 9-14 with the opportunity to explore their interests with college professors, instructors and leaders who channel their knowledge into a fun, hands-on college learning experience.

Camp dates are July 11-15 and July 18-22. Register online at BethelCollege.edu/Camps, email Academic.Camps@BethelCollege.edu or call 574.807.7623 with questions. The registration deadline is two weeks prior to each camp. If space is available, late registrations will be accepted up to the first day of camp.

Science Camp with Cassie May, assistant professor of biology at Bethel

July 11-15, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 9-12

Nature is amazing and diverse, even in our own backyard! We will examine wildlife found in ponds, woods, and prairies using scientific tools like binoculars, microscopes, and nets. Through hands-on experiments, we will learn about the importance of diversity in nature, how animals interact, and the role of habitat. Come and explore the great outdoors and become a backyard biologist!

 

Art Camp with Mike May, assistant professor of art at Bethel

July 11-15, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 9-12

Learn drawing! In this class, you will use your imagination as a guide to learn how to draw 3-Dimensional, realistic pictures. You will learn basic perspective, foreshortening and value and how to enhance the way you see the world in order to make more realistic pictures. During exercises and projects you will get to use your imagination to draw and create pictures of the things you like.

 

Chef Camp with James Metherd, head of culinary services at Bethel

July 11-15 or July 18-22, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 9-12

Cooking isn’t just for grown-ups anymore! If it’s scary imagining your kids taking cooking lessons in your home kitchen, send them to our professional kitchen instead! Your kids will learn basic knife skills, food safety, basic nutrition, entrée preparation, meal planning, and organizational skills. The week will conclude with a restaurant-quality meal prepared and served to show off your child’s newly acquired talents.

 

Gospel Choir Camp with Zach Gillis, gospel choir director

July 18-22, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 9-14

Make music to the Lord with the sound of singing! In this camp, we will delve into the vocal techniques, performance and song delivery of the most beloved gospel tunes while having fun doing it! Our week will culminate in a small gospel concert featuring the campers as they really show off their stuff! If you love to sing, then this is the camp for you!

 

Drumming Camp with Dr. Michael Kendall, chair of Bethel’s music department

July 18-22, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 9-12

Create and keep the beat! Explore drumming in the unique setting of a drum circle. This camp accommodates both new and intermediate drummers who want to encounter rhythm through the technique of hand drumming. Campers will work within a safe, fun and community-oriented environment in which they will practice coordination skills, reading rhythm patterns and drumming as a group. While no experience is necessary to participate, those with drumming experience will be challenged with new rhythms and techniques. Hand drums will be available for campers who don’t own one.

 

Theatre Camp with Rebecca Brandt, Bethel theatre alumna

Join us this summer, learning new games and exercises that help build on your own natural creativity. We will explore the world of improvisation as well as delve into short scenes and “playlets.” Let’s bring out your inner actor!
