The Graphic Design program provides students with a solid theoretical background, emphasizing basic design elements and principles and encouraging critical thinking. Students develop a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills as a designer, and an understanding of how design can drive solutions to complex problems.

Graphic Design Major

Bachelor of Arts (BA) Program – 4 years

In pursuing a graphic design major, you’ll take part in a variety of courses:

  • Visual inquiry 
  • Type, image and graphic design histories
  • Research and process development 
  • Professional practices 
  • Branding and identity 
  • Interaction of social innovation, information and data visualization,  
  • Self-directed inquiry

The first two years of the program stress traditional hand methods while computer-aided design is introduced. The latter two years emphasize computer techniques but are grounded in theoretical design basics. Students learn to communicate effectively, both visually and verbally, within a range of hand techniques and software programs.  

Graphic Design Minor

In pursuing a graphic design minor, you’ll take part in a variety of courses:
